Kani Marouf is a filmmaker and artist, currently based in Berlin, born in Saarbrücken. She first studied Visual Communication at Bauhaus University Weimar, where she graduated from in 2016, holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts and later went to graduate from Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam from the film postgraduate program "Shadow Channel — Film, Design & Politics", holding a Masters of Fine Art. In Amsterdam, she was an artist in residence at WOW Amsterdam and a stipend of a German excellency program. In 2016 she co-founded the visual and research studio Versus Eternity, mainly dealing with the destruction of Mesopotamian cultural heritage sites. She has been selected in numerous exhibitions and festivals around the world. Her work has been screened in various formats, from traditional exhibition spaces (Galerie Rothamel, Het Nieuwe Instituut, Jan van Eyck Academy) and festivals (International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, Reykjavík International Film Festival, Kurdish Film Festival Berlin, Sonic Acts Academy) to experimental online platforms, like DEMO and artist-run spaces such as the Illegal Cinema at Magacin, in Belgrade. Her essays were published by Sternberg Press and Protocol Magazin. Since 2021 she is part of mîtosfilm where she works as the artistic director of the Kurdish Film Festival.
